Judge Harold Baer reversed an earlier ruling in which he had granted the defendant's motion to suppress 80 pounds of cocaine. After holding a second evidentiary hearing, the judge determined that the police had probable cause to search the defendant's car and denied the motion. Judge Baer's reversal came after the Clinton Administration and members of Congress intensely criticized the original suppression ruling.
